position of Prime Minister in UK history.
She was the longest serving
Prime Minister in over 150 years.
She was born
October 19, 1929 and was the
youngest daughter of the Mayor of Grantham.
She studied chemistry at
Oxford though politics was her
love.
After college took a job doing
tests on cake fillings and ice cream for a London company while
studying to take the bar. (She was actually on the team that
invented the first soft-serve ice cream.)
At 26 she married Denis
Thatcher, a dashing and successful businessman and oil executive.
She had twins named Mark and
Carol.
She pushed through many
rejections before she was elected to the House of Commons in 1959.
She served in many capacities
within the House before rising to Prime
Minister of England in 1979.
She held to her platform with
unwavering perseverance in the face of much criticism and
opposition during her years as PM.
She was a loyal friend of
President Ronald Reagan and praised by Soviet leader Mikhail
Gorbachev.
She retired as Prime Minister in
1990 and retired from the House of Commons in 1992.
She was given the title
Baroness Thatcher and now sits in
the House of Lords.
